Pelatihan Public Speaking sebagai Upaya Penguatan Kompetensi Komunikatif Guru Sosiologi SMA di Provinsi Riau

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi komunikatif guru Sosiologi SMA melalui pelatihan public speaking edukatif di Provinsi Riau. Kegiatan melibatkan 92 guru Sosiologi yang tergabung dalam komunitas Guru Penggerak dari berbagai kabupaten/kota dengan pendekatan partisipatif yang mencakup analisis kebutuhan, pelatihan, praktik, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Materi pelatihan meliputi komunikasi verbal dan nonverbal, pengelolaan vokal dan gestur, komunikasi persuasif, serta penerapan public speaking dalam pembelajaran. Evaluasi menggunakan pretest dan posttest menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada seluruh aspek kompetensi. Skor rata-rata meningkat dari 58–62 pada pretest menjadi 84–88 pada posttest, dengan kenaikan 23–29 poin atau sekitar 38–45%. Hasil ini menunjukkan efektivitas pelatihan dalam meningkatkan kompetensi komunikatif guru secara terukur. Selain itu, terjadi perubahan pemahaman dari public speaking sebagai keterampilan berbicara umum menjadi bagian dari komunikasi pedagogis yang mencakup interaksi kelas, retorika, dan komunikasi persuasif. Novelty program ini terletak pada pengembangan model reflective pedagogical public speaking training yang mengintegrasikan public speaking, komunikasi pedagogis, komunikasi persuasif, dan refleksi praktik mengajar. Model ini memberikan kontribusi baru dalam penguatan kompetensi komunikatif guru yang lebih aplikatif dibandingkan pelatihan konvensional. Dengan demikian, program ini berkontribusi pada peningkatan profesionalisme guru dalam menciptakan pembelajaran yang komunikatif, partisipatif, dan bermakna.
